Although they may not be a direct cause of cancer, sports drinks do act as a stepping stone. Sports drinks are marketed as healthy, but they are actually very high in sugar and carbohydrates. They are also unnecessary unless you literally work out all day.

For the most part, stick to drinking regular water because sports drinks contain extra calories that can cause obesity and type 2 diabetes, both of which are associated with a higher risk of developing cancer.

The best water for your body is plain, filtered water in the end. Other drinks are acceptable in moderation, but try to drink at least 2 liters of water each day before anything else (your morning coffee aside, of course).

Don’t forget to keep track of those liquid calories because what you drink is just as crucial to cancer prevention as what you eat.
